Questions about sponsorship
How payment works, when your certificate arrives, how to cancel and what happens when your sponsored dog finds a home – here are the answers to the questions we hear most often.
How can I pay for a sponsorship?
There are two options: a monthly PayPal subscription or a standing order at your own bank. Both run monthly and can be cancelled at any time. You choose the option directly in the sponsorship form.
PayPal: how does it work?
After submitting the form you are redirected to PayPal, where you set up a monthly subscription. Important: complete the process at PayPal all the way to the end. If you cancel at PayPal, no sponsorship is created. After that the payment runs automatically – there is nothing else for you to do.
Standing order: what do I need to do?
After the form you will see our bank details and a QR code. Use them to set up a monthly standing order at your bank (with no end date). Then click "I have set up the standing order" on the page. Recipient: Shield of Dogs - Verein zur Hunderettung, IBAN: AT251500000631161007, BIC: OBKLAT2L.
What should the payment reference say?
Please always state "Patenschaft" plus the dog's name and your own name, for example: "Patenschaft Luna – Maria Muster". Without this we cannot match your payment to the right sponsorship. If you use the QR code, the reference is already filled in correctly.
When do I get my sponsorship certificate?
With PayPal automatically as soon as the first payment is confirmed. With a standing order once the first transfer has reached us and we have checked it – this can take a few banking days. The certificate is sent by email.
Can I contribute a smaller amount?
Yes. Besides the full sponsorship there is a partial sponsorship from €5 per month. If only a smaller remaining amount is open for a dog, exactly that remaining amount applies. You choose the amount in the form.
What is my contribution used for?
For the care of your sponsored dog: food, veterinary treatment and shelter. A sponsorship is voluntary support – it does not create ownership of the dog or any claim to adopt it.
Where can I find my sponsorship?
Every confirmation email contains the link to your personal sponsorship page. There you will find news about your dog and your certificate, and you can manage your sponsorship. Lost the link? You can request it again on the contact page.
How can I end the sponsorship?
At any time, without notice and without giving reasons – most easily via your personal sponsorship page or by email to info@shieldofdogs.at. Please also cancel a PayPal subscription in your PayPal account under "Settings → Payments → Automatic payments"; a standing order you delete at your bank.
What happens when my sponsored dog finds a home?
Then the sponsorship ends automatically. We stop the ongoing payments, let you know by email and would be delighted if you supported another dog. If a dog dies or is no longer in our care, the sponsorship also ends – in that case we will contact you personally.
Will I get a donation receipt?
Yes, we issue a donation receipt on request. Just send us a short message via the contact form or to info@shieldofdogs.at.
How can I help without giving money?
Share our dogs! Every dog page and dog card has a share icon for WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. Every share helps a dog to be seen – perhaps by exactly the person who will give it a home. Goods such as food, leashes or blankets also help directly.

The payment did not work – what now?
No problem, nothing is lost. Simply get in touch via the form below or our contact form. Please tell us which dog you wanted to support and which payment method you chose – we will sort it out together.
